Assistant Professor of Water and Society, School of the Earth, Ocean, and Environment, University of South Carolina

The School of the Earth, Ocean, and Environment invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position to begin August 16, 2019. We seek an individual with outstanding research and teaching capabilities and interests that focus on the intersection of water and society. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in the social sciences (economics, environmental science, environmental studies, geography, public policy, political science, regional and urban planning, science and technology studies, sociology, or related fields). The specific area of specialization is open, but applicants’ research must lie at the intersection of social and water issues, freshwater or marine, and should demonstrate specialization in areas including, but not limited to, water policy, politics, resources, or planning.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a leading research program capable of attracting external funding and is to teach undergraduate courses that support interdisciplinary degrees in Environmental Studies and Environmental Science as well as graduate courses specific to his/her field, with a standard teaching load of two courses per semester. Cross appointment with an appropriate unit is possible, depending on the candidate’s expertise.

A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
