Dr Rebecca Jones, 2020 C.H. Currey Fellow at the State Library of New South Wales, will be delivering an online talk titled “Drought, flood, heat, dust: living with extremes in arid Australia”.
In this talk, Rebecca will explore historical adaptations to extreme weather in arid Australia, including the physical and emotional effects of extreme weather on settlers in arid, inland Australia in the mid twentieth century, and the ways in which these people adapted to climatic challenges. Manuscripts and records of nurses from the Flying Doctor Services provide rich insight into the experiences of drought, flood, heat and dust in far west NSW, south western Queensland and north eastern South Australia.
Tuesday 5 October 2021 11am to 12pm, online via Zoom, Free event.
