Saturday 11th February 2017, 3:30-5pm at The Greenhouse, Birrarung Mar, Melbourne.
Is it time to resurrect the wartime ‘Grow Your Own’ campaign? Associate Professor of History at The University of Western Australia, Andrea Gaynor shares her extensive knowledge encompassing the history of food production in Australian cities in this feature Festival forum. Can a mass mobilisation of suburban gardening bring on resilient and sustainable food systems? Andrea explores this controversial, but compelling, wartime metaphor to find inspiration for large scale transformation.
This talk forms part of the Food History & Future Forum, with Bruce Pascoe and MC Nick Rose of Sustain: The Australian Food Network. This is a free event.
The Festival runs from 4-28th February; other speakers include Peter Singer, Tim Flannery, Tanya Ha, Satyajit Das and Søren Hermansen. See the Sustainable Living Festival website or #slf2017 for more details.
