The Anthropocene: The Promise and Pitfalls of an Epochal Idea. A Workshop with Prof Rob Nixon
In conjunction with a public lecture as part of the HUMAN NATURE Sydney Environmental Humanities Lecture Series (1 November 2018), multi-award winning author, Professor Rob Nixon, will be leading a workshop on 2 November 2018. Over the past decade, we have witnessed three entangled developments: the rise of the environmental humanities; the increasing centrality of environmental justice to environmental studies; and the ascent of the Anthropocene as a bridge between the concerns of humanists, artists, social scientists, biologists and geologists. This workshop engages with the possibilities and the tensions among these developments.
The workshop is open to those working in the Environmental Humanities. Preference will be given to HDR students and academics from the University of New South Wales, the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University and Macquarie University. To enroll contact: j.motion@unsw.edu.au
In preparation for the discussion, participants will be asked to read some selected work on this topic, which will be circulated one week prior to the workshop.
The Sydney Environmental Humanities Lecture Series is jointly funded and coordinated by the University of New South Wales, Macquarie University, Western Sydney University, the University of Sydney and the Australian Museum.
