Have you read an interesting journal article recently? Want to hear about the fascinating and unexpected articles that other environmental historians have stumbled upon? The Network Convenor, Alessandro Antonello, is hosting an environmental history journal club on Thursday 14 August. Come together to learn about recently published articles in environmental history from diverse geographies, periods, historiographical conversations and conceptual concerns. This will be an informal affair which will hopefully expand our sense of current concerns and approaches in environmental history. There will be no formal presentations, and the material will be supplied by you, the participants.
If you want to suggest an article (published in 2024 or 2025) to talk about, please email alessandro.antonello@utas.edu.au in advance of the meeting. We only have an hour, so if we’re over-subscribed, Sandro will select participants to talk about their chosen articles (and maybe we’ll run over for 10 or 15 minutes depending on the mood) – he’ll try to ensure temporal, geographic and conceptual diversity. We hope to learn about positive responses (although always critically minded) to articles rather than negative responses – we want to learn about exciting articles, not disappointing ones. In talking about the articles, we hope to learn about the core research questions and historiographical and conceptual conversations they are participating in, the most surprising or exciting elements of the articles, and what future research they mind lead to and invite. There are no temporal or geographic limits to the articles we hope to learn about.
This event won’t be recorded, although we aim to compile a list of articles discussed for circulation in this newsletter.
