The National Library of Australia invites you to attend a talk by 2026 fellow and AANZEHN member Dr Margaret Cook, presenting her recent Fellowship research on cyclones, one of the most powerful and devastating natural forces experienced in the Australian climate. The talk will take place 12:30pm – 1:30pm, Thursday 24 September 2026 at the NLA, Canberra, and online.

Cyclones are often treated as isolated, episodic disasters rather than historically significant events that have shaped and reflected Australian society over time. Yet these powerful natural forces are deeply embedded in the dynamic relationships between people, place and environment. Margaret’s fellowship research explores the historical, cultural and social dimensions of cyclones, examining how they have influenced communities and Australia’s history.
